Summer 2024
Welcome back!
We would like to extend a warm welcome back to all children and families after what we hope was a wonderful Easter break. Staff have already noticed how the children in Year 6 are coming into their own and showing even higher levels of responsibility and maturity as they ready themselves for their next steps in life. Please be assured that we are supporting children in every way possible as they grow and learn in their final steps of primary school and prepare for their SATs tests.
YEAR 6 STAFF
If you need any support or would like to discuss how we can best work in partnership to support your child in school, we are always here to help. Your class teacher is always the first point of contact, followed by Mrs Fisher as Upper Key Stage 2 Lead. For any advice on special educational needs, it may be appropriate, after speaking with the class teacher to also contact Mrs Whitehead, who is our school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO).
Smaller queries can often be answered at drop off and collection times, however for more private conversations, or those that may take a little longer, please make an appointment by discussing this with the teacher or calling the school office instead.
Please be advised that collection time is a very busy time, and not always a time that we can give you our full attention.

ATTENDANCE
Good attendance and punctuality are vital, not only for learning, but also to help pupils settle into their new school routine, make friends and grow in confidence. Each week, every class with 97% attendance or higher will receive a special breakfast treat to enjoy in school. Both Hawthorn and Sycamore have maintained a high level of attendance all year and we would love for this to continue. Not only is Year 6 a crucial year, but we are also fiercely competitive – help us to be the best by being in school every day and on time! HOMEWORK
With SATs fast approaching, it is now more essential than ever that all children practise their reading skills and times tables at home. This will help support your child in their language and vocabulary development. Secure times tables knowledge is essential to success in maths. Daily reading of books sent home – these are changed weekly. Complete 3 comprehensions on reading plus per week. Weekly spelling practice to be completed on Spelling Shed Weekly maths practice to be completed on Maths Shed Regular and ongoing times tables practice online using TTRockstars (pupils will be provided with usernames and passwords) |
READING
Developing strong readers is our priority. All pupils read in school daily and have already this week had reading practice sent home, coinciding with their reading stage. Reading each day will help to accelerate learning and help your child to grow in confidence. Please make it a priority to read with your child and we ask that the blue reading record book is signed by an adult or the Y6 child five times a week. More information on reading, and the rest of the curriculum, can be found on our school website. https://www.stteresaoflisieux.co.uk/ Remember to also follow our Twitter page and keep up with what we are doing on our class pages on the school website.
